dxm.pngInterconnected systems are becoming hugely popular, and the core focus of every company is to ensure a level of automation that would make their processes efficient, reliable and safe.

Internet of Things or IoT is probably the biggest buzzword in factory automation today, and makes up for a key aspect of the ongoing industrial revolution, i.e. Industry 4.0. It basically describes the technologies that enable objects to communicate with each other, from consumer electronics to industrial assets. And there’s no better medium for communication then the network of networks, Internet.

For industries, IoT based systems bring benefits such as:

The basic building block of all these concepts is seamless integration into the system through network connectivity. Industrial Wireless Controllers are essential for providing machines & assets a connection point, allowing them to be integrated into the system.

The DXM Series Industrial Wireless Controllers have been designed to facilitate all ethernet connectivity & industrial IoT applications and to provide a platform for devices to be a part of the system. The DXM Wireless Controller is capable of providing best-in-class wireless connectivity to your industrial devices, making sure even the remotest of areas is well-covered. In turn, this provides greater real-time control over your workspace and a better opportunity for automation.

The features include:

  • ISM radios in 900MHz and 2.4GHz local wireless network
  • Converts Modbus RTU to Modbus TCP/IP
  • Contains programmable logic controller
  • Supports cellular connectivity
  • Packs data-logging and cloud-connectivity capabilities

Overall, the DXM Series provides a complete package to control engineers who are looking to bring down inefficiencies and transform their sluggish & inflexible network into a robust one.

But where do the DXM Series Industrial Wireless Controllers come to play? The answer can easily spread over pages as the controller can be used at every single point that has a wireless-based industrial device.

Machine Monitoring

Real-time monitoring of machines is essential in industries to ensure that issues are rectified as they surface. This minimizes downtime and allows issues to be solved before they set-off a chain reaction. Therefore, machine status must be communicated in a clear & swift manner, irrespective of the type of machine whether stationary or moving.

The DXM100 controller fits in perfectly for such an application where the user needs to be warned to carry out remedial actions. Ideally, wireless tower lights would be installed along with the major machines so that workers could immediately get to work. As these lights are usually located in the middle of the action, its best to have a wireless medium in place. Therefore, these are connected to the DXM100 controller wirelessly. In addition, the DXM100 controller facilitates communication between the very sensor that detects faults within the machines. As soon as the fault is detected, a signal is sent to the PLC, which relays an appropriate signal to the warning lights. All this communication takes place using the DXM100 wireless controller, without worrying about any blockage which is usually an issue with wired networks.

Environmental Parameters Monitoring

The DXM series industrial wireless controller family plays a vital role in waste management, making the entire process lean and cost-effective.

Biogas

Methane gas must be accurately monitored, removed and vented as per government regulations. In order to ensure that these parameters fall in line, DX999 FlexPower Nodes can be used. The analogue input can be used determine the methane levels, which can then be sent off to a centralized system for further processing.

Sludge level

pH sensors are placed at multiple locations within a water treatment plant, all of which relay information to a central point so appropriate action can be taken. The “relaying” of information is handled by a DXM wireless controller, as it’s obvious that these sensors can’t communicate in a wired manner.

Other uses of the DXM series include liquid level detection, landfill sites and in pumps & containers.

Banner also offers embedded wireless solutions to manufacturers who wish to permanently integrate this DXM technology into their hardware. The PCB based solution is ideal for sensors or instrumentation manufacturers who wish to add wireless functionalities in their devices. A pre-mapped DX80 is installed, capable of RS-485 communication using 0-20mA signal. These instruments/sensors are commonly found in gas detection solutions, mining and remote applications in general.
